Full Review
The Columbia Triple Canyon 24L Backpack is ideal for day hikes, with plenty of storage, basic organization features, and an ultra-comfortable carrying experience. While the design remains relatively simple and straightforward, it utilizes lightweight yet durable materials. A nice additional feature is the built-in rain cover, which provides protection during unexpected weather conditions. Columbia’s expertise in creating long-lasting gear is evident in this daypack and its careful attention to detail balances protection with comfort.

Columbia is particularly known for features that are designed to be extra durable and convenient. Their product line spans multiple outdoor categories, including hiking gear, winter sports equipment, camping supplies, and casual outdoor wear. As part of their “Titanium” line, this backpack represents their robust offerings, featuring advanced materials and construction techniques for serious outdoor enthusiasts.
External Components
The Columbia Triple Canyon 24L Backpack is made with a super lightweight nylon material that feels sturdy and protective. It seems like it will live up to Columbia’s “Titanium gear” standards for durability in harsh conditions. While the material can be somewhat noisy during handling, it is minimal and not significantly disruptive. The mesh panels are made with a blend of nylon and elastane, which gives them excellent stretch while maintaining durability.

The pack has YKK zippers with long zipper pulls that are pretty comfortable. However, due to the lightweight material, the zippers typically require two hands to operate. The zipper pulls themselves have plastic molding for a comfortable and easy grip.

There are three daisy chains of loops on both the left and right side of the front, along with dedicated loops designed to secure trekking poles when combined with the side compression straps. These attachment points can also fit other gear or carabiners, though it’s worth noting that the loops are relatively long, which may result in your attached gear hanging lower than ideal.

The pack also has compression straps on both sides that not only cinch down and compress the bag but can also lock down larger gear like those trekking poles, a tripod, or a jacket. The built-in rain cover is located at the bottom of the pack and is super easy to deploy when needed, yet stays neatly tucked away when not in use.

Each shoulder strap has dedicated attachment points that can be used to secure drinking tubes from the hydration reservoir sleeve to prevent them from swinging or flopping around. These can also be used to attach extra gear with carabiners or clips. The straps include breathable mesh that offers both cushioning for comfort and enhanced breathability at the top, where most of the weight is typically concentrated. While the same mesh material extends to the lower half of the straps, it becomes significantly thinner in this section.

The back panel features a robust padding system that provides solid form and structure. At the bottom, it has the same breathable mesh material as the upper section of the shoulder straps for extra comfort. The upper section utilizes a unique design with mesh and additional ventilation channels, which proves especially valuable during warm-weather activities or intense hiking sessions.

The adjustable sternum strap helps effectively distribute weight for a more comfortable carry, especially with heavier gear. While not removable, it is on a rail system that allows for optimal customization and a comfortable fit. The strap’s design cleverly positions the plastic buckle away from the body by making one side adjustable. There is also a built-in emergency whistle on the long side of the plastic buckle.

A non-removable hip belt also helps distribute weight to the hips and keeps the pack securely positioned against your back. This dual-strap system ensures optimal weight distribution and stability during wear.
Fit Notes

The Columbia Triple Canyon 24L Backpack has a distinctly rugged and outdoor aesthetic. However, the all-black variant could potentially blend into a more professional setting despite its outdoor-specific features being less relevant or useful there. This pack is ultra comfortable thanks to the lightweight materials and thoughtful design. That is a significant strength of this pack, and it is achieved through its lightweight materials and thoughtful design. While the shoulder straps are relatively narrow, their slim profile actually works to their advantage, making them unobtrusive during wear.
Inside The Pack
The Columbia Triple Canyon 24L Backpack includes two water bottle pockets on both sides of the pack. These pockets are made of stretchy mesh and have an elastic gusset that allows them to expand and securely hold wide 32-oz Nalgene bottles as well as smaller or thinner water bottles. This design helps ensure bottles of various sizes stay firmly in place during use.

The top front pocket has a U-shaped opening with dual zippers and an organization panel towards the top that is perfect for holding smaller items. This panel contains two mesh slip pockets with elastic openings that provide some stretch, though smaller items like Bluetooth earbuds still might slip out. Behind one of these mesh pockets is an additional non-stretch slip pocket made from the same interior material as the rest of the pack. A simple nylon key leash with a plastic carabiner sits above these pockets. The key leash naturally hangs into the non-stretchy slip pocket, making it an ideal spot for key storage. This front pocket extends to the pack’s bottom, providing ample space for larger items like a tech kit. This intuitive design creates a nice system where smaller items stay organized at the top while larger gear can be stored below.

The pack also features a unique front stash pocket. The sides incorporate stretchy mesh material cleverly hidden behind compression straps that feed through the daisy chain loops. While this pocket serves as a convenient quick-access storage space for gear, it’s worth noting that it lacks any closure, making it less secure for valuable items.

The main compartment includes a dedicated hydration reservoir sleeve capable of holding up to a 3-liter bladder. While this sleeve can also accommodate a tablet or laptop, it’s worth noting that it lacks protective features like padding or felt material typically found in dedicated laptop compartments.

Beyond the sleeve, the main compartment offers a spacious empty cavity suitable for loose gear, clothing, or organizational cubes and pouches. When tested as an overnight bag, it comfortably fits a packing cube and toiletry kit with some room to spare. Smaller items like Bluetooth earbuds and wall chargers could easily be stored in the front compartment’s organization panel, while a minimal tech pouch fits neatly below that. This pack works as an overnight or weekend bag when not used on trails or day hikes.

The Columbia Triple Canyon 24L Backpack is a versatile, well-designed pack perfect for various use cases. Its intuitive features, like the built-in rain cover, multiple attachment points, and comfortable harness system, make it an excellent choice for day hikes and casual outdoor activities. The pack’s organization system balances simplicity and functionality well, while its durable construction lives up to Columbia’s reputation for quality outdoor equipment. This backpack excels in its intended role as a hiking daypack, but its adaptable design and clean aesthetics also make it suitable for everyday carry or weekend travel.
