Full Review

The Ridge Wallet for MagSafe is perfect for those looking for something compact and minimalist in a wallet with extra functionality. Ridge adds MagSafe compatibility to its traditional wallet design while maintaining the same sleek and compact form factor. The minimalist wallet provides excellent functionality with card storage and even a built-in money clip. As usual with their products, Ridge includes replaceable screws and elastic, as well as a lifetime warranty.

The Rundown

The Ridge Wallet for MagSafe is made from ultralight 6061 T-6 Aluminum, TPU, and stainless steel, so it’s quite durable. It features high-strength N52 Neodymium Magnets and incorporates a smooth and durable polycarbonate magnet housing to prevent scratches from the metal exterior plates during repeated connections and disconnections. This design helps to prevent unnecessary scratching to the back of your device, which we can confirm works. After using two different cases, there are no scratches or scuffs on either.

The wallet also comes with a strengthening tray that attaches via 3M adhesive for a more secure connection and compatibility with non-MagSafe devices like Android or Windows phones. The tray adds a fairly minimal bump due to the magnet, but otherwise, it is pretty thin and unobtrusive. While testing this wallet out with different cases, we found that standard MagSafe-compatible cases provide sturdy and secure connections with a satisfying snap-in placement. However, it’s worth noting that magnetic attachment isn’t completely shake-proof. It is important to double-check compatibility since not all cases work super well. In testing, our MagSafe-compatible case technically works, but its materials and design don’t create the most secure connection with the wallet, and it can slide off pretty easily.

Like many of Ridge’s other wallets, this version includes RFID protection for enhanced security. The integrated money clip is both functional and aesthetically pleasing, featuring a stretchy elastic combined with metal hardware that securely holds not just cash but also additional cards or folded receipts when needed.

The wallet’s simple and straightforward approach effectively secures and holds items in place without issue. However, this minimalist design presents some efficiency challenges when carrying multiple cards. While the mechanism is reliably simple, with little to no risk of failure, accessing a specific card is not the smoothest process. We often have to remove the entire stack of cards and fan them out to locate a particular one.

Packability

We find that Ridge excels at creating simple-to-use and straightforward products. In its simplest form, the wallet consists of two pieces of titanium secured by elastic, offering an aesthetically pleasing look and a compact, secure storage option for cards and money. The wallet has about the exact dimensions as a standard credit card, while its expandability allows for the convenient storage of plenty of cards. While the wallet can get a little bulky as you add more items, it is still an efficient and intuitive option, whether magnetically secured to a MagSafe-compatible device or used independently as a standalone wallet. With its titanium and magnetic construction, it definitely has some heft to it, making it slightly heavier but not uncomfortably so in our experience. Its compact form ensures it doesn’t take up excessive space in smaller slings. This also applies to men’s and women’s travel pants pockets.

Quick Comparison

Both The Ridge Wallet for MagSafe and PopSockets PopWallet+ for MagSafe wallets are MagSafe compatible and offer convenient card storage solutions. While the PopSockets wallet lacks dedicated cash storage, its built-in knob gives you a more secure grip on your phone. Both products feature strong, reliable magnets for easy attachment. The Ridge wallet stands out with its superior storage capacity, holding up to 12 cards instead of the PopWallet’s three, though this does result in a slightly bulkier form.

Apple’s iPhone Leather Wallet with MagSafe offers a slightly more sleek and minimalist aesthetic with its premium leather construction. Certain models include optional Find My capabilities for enhanced security tracking. While The Ridge Wallet for MagSafe provides greater storage capacity and versatility in a slightly thicker package, it feels like the companies take fundamentally different approaches. The Apple Leather Wallet is a phone accessory, while The Ridge Wallet for MagSafe is a standalone wallet that happens to have MagSafe compatibility as an added feature.

The Ridge Wallet for MagSafe nicely combines the brand’s signature minimalist design with modern MagSafe functionality. While it may have some minor usability quirks when accessing specific cards, its durable construction, versatile storage options, and RFID protection make it a solid choice for those looking for a MagSafe-compatible wallet. We like the MagSafe compatibility because it adds utility without compromising the wallet’s standalone functionality. This wallet is particularly suited for those who value durability and a minimalist design while looking for the convenience of MagSafe compatibility. Though it may not be the slimmest option available when full, its expandability, and versatile carrying options make it a practical choice for everyday carry and travel.
