The Moment Everything Backpack 28L Weekender is a versatile backpack that can be used in a variety of situations. It’s small and lightweight enough for everyday use but is flexible enough to handle more gear for weekend getaways depending on how you pack it. As an added bonus, with the right accessories from Moment, it can even double as a camera kit or gear bag.
Its black aesthetic is stylish and timeless without being too flashy, so you won’t have to worry about attracting too much attention.
When it comes to durability, the Moment Everything Backpack doesn’t disappoint. Its outer layer is made of a tough 420D Nylon Fabric with a rugged micro ripstop and 2-layer waterproofing. It can handle whatever you throw at it while still being lightweight and flexible.
Despite its sleek appearance, this backpack offers three compartments with plenty of storage and organization options. But if you’re a fan of packing cubes and pouches, you’ll love the backpack’s multi-point access, specifically the clamshell opening so that everything is visible. Whether you’re heading to work, going on a weekend adventure, or capturing moments with your camera, the Moment Everything Backpack 28L Weekender is a great companion. It’s versatile, durable, and stylish, all wrapped up in one amazing backpack. So, let’s get into it.
External Components
The Moment Everything Backpack 28L Weekend uses a 420D Nylon Fabric material with a rugged micro ripstop that features 2 layer waterproofing designed to stand up to whatever is thrown at it and it doesn’t disappoint. The lightweight and flexible material coupled with its black aesthetic is stylish and timeless without being too flashy, so you won’t have to worry about attracting too much attention. Weighing in at 2.4 lbs (1090 grams), when empty it feels pretty lightweight even with its durable material and structured frame. This is particularly important for those who are constantly on the move, as it provides peace of mind knowing that their belongings are secure.
While it doesn’t have compression straps or external attachment points, it does have four grab handles on the top, back, and both sides for added convenience. It even has a luggage pass-through, making it easy to attach to your carry on luggage. This backpack is designed to be user-friendly.
Included is an external travel water bottle pocket that can fit up to a 1L Nalgene bottle. When not in use, it sits flush against the bag and blends in well. One thing we noticed with the water bottle pocket is that whether it is empty or has a water bottle in it, it doesn’t interfere with any of the zippers.
The branding on the bag is minimal, and the Moment logo only appears on the bottom of the front backpack and the luggage pass-through. A full panel rigid foam layer provides a solid frame, while the rest of the bag is slightly more flexible. Although its solid frame provides plenty of support on your back, we found it tends to fall forward regardless of whether or not it’s empty or full. A quick solution is leaning it up against a chair or table leg.
The YKK zippers are sturdy and easy to use, and they have a coating to protect against most weather conditions. There’s even a protective flap over the secondary zipper to the main compartment and front vertical pocket.
The rigid back panel provides good protection for your laptop in its dedicated compartment and also ensures that any contents in the bag are not digging into your back while wearing it. However, the sturdy back panel plus minimal padding does not make it the softest on your back. It includes a contoured air channel for added ventilation in an attempt to prevent sweat from building up; however, we found that it’s not as effective as anticipated, though your mileage may vary.
Nonetheless, we think this backpack offers a range of features that make it a suitable choice for daily use as well as longer journeys, providing good support, protection, and convenience.
Fit Notes
The shoulder straps are pleasantly padded with two layers of foam, providing a comfortable fit. While they may feel slightly thinner compared to other dedicated travel backpacks, this actually works in its favor by offering more support for longer hauls. Combining a stiff layer for added rigidity and a soft layer for extra comfort helps ensure this backpack stays comfortable. Designed in an S-shape and tapering towards the ends, these straps are engineered to ensure comfort for a wide variety of body sizes and types.
Also included is an adjustable sternum strap with a buckle that can be easily adjusted on both sides. They can also be removed entirely, although it did take a little finessing to get them back on. We are big fans of Moment’s sternum strap since it’s on a rail instead of predetermined notches or latch points, which means you can get a more granular adjustment when finding your fit.
All of the straps, including the sternum strap, include slack keepers for managing any extra slack and keeping everything organized and tidy.
We found that the S-Shaped shoulder paths do a pretty decent job in accommodating a wide variety of body types while also ensuring comfort. The sleek black appearance and minimalistic design of this product give it a sophisticated and professional look that is perfect for any business setting. However, it can also be worn casually, making it versatile for any occasion.
Inside The Pack
What really sets this backpack apart is its versatility and multiple access points. To get to the main compartment, you can use the top and/or side loading zipper or the secondary zipper to open it up clamshell style. This flexibility makes it a dream for packing all the essentials while also providing easy access when out and about!
The secondary compartment on the front of the bag is equipped with a vertical YKK zipper on the front, which is protected by a flap to keep your belongings safe from the elements. Inside, you’ll find an extra zipper pocket with a handy leash for keys. The gray interior is made of a super soft Velex fabric in a subtle gray color that provides plenty of contrast and makes it easier to locate your items quickly.
On the back, there is a hidden pocket called the “Passport Pocket” that’s perfect for keeping your passport, money, and other flat items safe and secure. It even has RFID blocking for added protection. It’s worth mentioning that getting your hand in the pocket might be a bit tricky, depending on how loaded the bag is. We also experience a little friction trying to remove a passport that has a sleeve or protective cover on, primarily due to the structured padding of the laptop compartment. It was not a huge issue, but something to keep in mind.
Because of its discreet location and extra RFID security protection, we find this pocket to be best used for flatter items such as passports (given the name of the pocket), wallets, and other similarly flat items. One thing we thoroughly enjoy is that it’s easy to get to the pocket by sliding the backpack around to your left side (similar to how you would access the front pocket). That’s great for quickly accessing your travel documents when you go through airport security.
Its design allows for easy access by slinging it over the shoulder, specifically on the left side. While the vertical pocket may occasionally be a bit frustrating when trying to place items inside, it actually works quite smoothly when it comes to retrieving items on the go without having to take off the backpack. We think it would have been even better if there were more slip pockets or mesh zippered organizers in this area to help with organization. Although not a major issue, the items in this pocket may shuffle around a bit since they are placed loosely, so we recommend using pouches if you have a bunch of tiny items you need to keep track of. The sleek black flap that covers the zipper also helps the pocket blend in so that it doesn’t even look like there is a pocket there. We appreciate the stealthy application in addition to the added protection against the weather.
This bag also features a dedicated laptop and tech compartment with two zippers: one zipping halfway down one side and the other zipping about three-quarters down the other side. It has a thoughtful laptop sleeve that fits up to a 16-inch MacBook Pro, as well as a notebook or tablet. While we’ve found that the sleeve is a bit snug for the laptop, it keeps it secure and prevents it from moving around too much.
That said, they are “Slip Pockets,” which are intended for fast and easy access in and out, so the pockets themselves are not really stretchy. There are two additional slip pockets on the opposite side of the laptop compartment, which also utilize the same type of pocket. There are also two pen/stylus pockets. In our use, we didn’t experience any issues with items falling out of any of the pockets.
The laptop sleeve has a false bottom, which means it’s elevated so that your tech doesn’t touch the ground when the bag is placed down. The entire compartment can also be used to store folders, notebooks, or similarly flat items. The zippers used in the laptop compartment are sturdy and have a water-resistant coating, which keeps your tech safe in inclement weather. The bag is also padded on all sides for extra protection. We think it would be nice if the laptop sleeve had a softer or more cushioned material to prevent scratching, though this doesn’t seem to be a major issue.
The main compartment of this backpack is super convenient, with two different ways to access your gear. You can easily pack or retrieve items from either the top or the front of the backpack. The rear YKK zippers have a special coating to protect against the elements, and they zip all the way down the bag like a clamshell so you can lay the backpack flat and see everything inside. There’s also a top-loading option with a protective flap over the front zippers. One side of the zipper goes all the way down, while the other side goes to the top of the water bottle pocket, which is roughly halfway down. Inside the main compartment, there are three mesh pockets for keeping gear organized. The backpack is great for people who like to use their own packing cubes and pouches or for those who just like to throw their gear into an open bucket.
Inside the main compartment are attachment points that work well with Moment’s Camera cubes for even better storage, protection, and organization. These help stabilize the cubes (sold separately) so that they’re not jostled around when in transport.
The Moment Everything Backpack 28L Weekender is a versatile and durable backpack that is suitable for both daily use and weekend getaways. Its sleek black design and multiple access and loading methods make it stylish and convenient for just about any occasion. Its rugged micro ripstop material with 2-layer waterproofing and industry-leading YKK zippers provide plenty of protection against everything thrown at it, and its various compartments and internal pockets provide extra organization without getting in the way. Overall, it’s a stylish and functional choice for those in need of a versatile backpack.
