So, you’re looking for the best travel pill organizer for your next trip! Well, you’ve come to the right place. This list will cover our favorite travel pill cases, some tiny and some with enough space for extra medication. Whether you’re taking a short weekend trip or going abroad for an extended period, we’re here to help!
Why You Should Trust Us
Since 2017, we’ve been testing the best, newest, and smallest travel gear on the market to help travelers like you pack smarter. We cover it all, from travel backpacks to socks, and the best travel pill organizer falls somewhere in the middle of that list. We’ve taken our experience with the pill organizers we’ve already tested and paired it with the dozens of other toiletry reviews we have on the site to ensure that no stone is left unturned so that every traveler can find something that works for them on this list! But how exactly did we do that? Well, we’re glad you asked!
How We Tested It
For this article, we kept things simple by creating tests directly related to how you’ll use these pill organizers.
Test 1: We poured 500mg pills into each organizer to see how many fit inside. While this isn’t foolproof, as all pills are different sizes, most 500mg pain pills are somewhat similar. Plus, since these are fairly middle-of-the-road, it gives you an idea of how much you’ll be able to increase or decrease storage if you have smaller or larger pills than average. We didn’t stack them neatly like a house of cards because nobody has time to do that in the real world; however, we didn’t just toss them in there either. If there were multiple size compartments, we went with the smallest one.
Test 2: Once full, we tested how easy and safe it is to get your pills for the day out of the case. Some made things effortless, and some were more challenging, leading to pills spilling on accident. On this scale, a ten is bad.
Let’s dive into these travel pill organizers!
When testing the Fouews Travel Pill Organizer, we liked that you can fit 14 pills inside the smallest compartment, as that’s more than most people will need but is enough for casual users to stow a few multivitamins in to stay healthy while abroad. It’s about average compared to the rest of this list, so it’s a solid middle-of-the-road option. Regarding how easily the pills dump out, the Fouews scores average, landing a five on our scale. The tabs are a little challenging to open; however, it comes with a small guitar pick-sized tool to assist you in this process. The compartments closer to the hinge are more challenging to dump but more manageable than others on this list.
Overall, the case is easy to use and fits into your pocket, which we dig. However, travelers with a lot of medication might want something bigger and more segmented, as this case only has six small compartments and two larger ones.
Why We Like It- It’s small enough to fit into your pocket
- An included guitar pick-like tool helps you open the compartments
- It only has six small compartments, not seven
- The large compartments are hard to get pills out of quickly
These things are trendy, and for good reason. The Ikigai Cases are crafted from aluminum and slide open satisfyingly. The top clicks as you pass each day, so it won’t slide open without you wanting it to. It's highly durable because it’s crafted from metal, although this adds weight to your carry. Still, the added durability is solid, and we appreciate the look and feel of this case. Plus, you can pay a little extra to choose which day of the week you want it to start with, which is handy for people who don’t start their week on Sunday.
We recommend the 3-pocket Mission Pill Case because it’s small enough to fit into your pocket and has three compartments. In testing, we were able to accommodate 12 pills inside each day, which is more than most users will need but not excessive to the point where it will deter you from using it. It scored a two on our dump-out scale, making it one of the best performers. The slider snaps into place and doesn’t overlap the opening, so there’s no way for pills to get caught on the way out. In addition to the medium, we like the Weekly and Nano Pill Cases for those who need more or less medication and vitamins.
Why We Like It- It’s one of the nicest-looking pill cases that we’ve ever seen
- The case is very easy to use, with pills rarely spilling out of your hand due to the opening
- The metal makes it heavy, which isn’t ideal for travel
- It makes a loud metal-on-metal noise when opening and closing the lid, which will bother some people
Our favorite thing about the M MUchengbao Weekly Pill Organizer is its size. You can fit this into your pants pocket, sling, or the admin panel of your travel backpack or daypack without issue. Once inside, there are seven compartments, six of which are the same size, the last spanning the width of the rest times two. This is solid because it doesn’t waste space and leaves extra room for the day you take supplements or a once-a-week vitamin. We could fit 12 pills in the standard-sized compartments, which is more than most users will need but isn’t excessive.
We found usage to be pretty average, scoring a five on our scale when dumping the pills out. The larger compartment is more challenging, but you only have to do that once a week. This pill organizer is small, durable, and oddly reminiscent of a tackle box. That last bit is off-topic, but hey, maybe that’ll do it for you!
Why We Like It- It fits into your pocket or sling easily
- You get two containers for under $10
- We find it challenging to get pills out of the larger compartment
- The logo is large, and the case feels a bit like it’s for work or fishing
The PPFISH Portable Daily Pill Case is our favorite option for people with just a little medication to take on short trips. It’s small, fits on your keychain, and doesn’t look like it has pills inside, which will be a perk for some travelers. There are three compartments that screw into one another, which is unique. That size and camouflaged look come at a sacrifice, though, as we could only fit six pills inside one of the spaces.
That said, for most travelers, this will be more than enough for their needs. Still, it isn’t the most intuitive, as you can’t see the pills inside without opening it up, which may cause some users anxiety, as you can’t be certain your medication is in there without opening it. That said, this was one of the most straightforward cases to get pills out of, scoring a two on our scale. The opening is small, allowing very little area for the pills to spill anywhere other than into your hand or onto the table or plate in front of you. Our version squeaks a bit when we unscrew it, which can be annoying, but we got used to it pretty quickly. So, if you prioritize portability and looks, this one might be a winner for you!
Why We Like It- It’s tiny and fits onto your keychain
- The case doesn’t look like it’s for medication, so it blends in more
- You can’t see what you have stowed inside until you open it
- The size is limiting for those who need to bring a lot of medication
This pill organizer needs no introduction—you’re likely used to seeing them. Though we can vouch for this brand specifically as we’ve tested it, you’ll find similar ones at the dollar store, Walmart, or your local shopping plaza. We were able to fit 25 pills inside one compartment, which is way above average, and we found that it was one of the more straightforward cases to access the pills once they were inside, too. This makes sense, as this has been the most popular style case for generations.
However, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its pitfalls. This thing is significantly larger than many other cases that it outperforms, so it might not work for travelers looking to save space in their pack or who want to keep their pills in their toiletry case or sling on the flight. It’s a cost-effective and easy-to-use method of transporting pills with day and night compartments, but you’ll have to decide whether the size is right for you!
Why We Like It- You can fit a ton of pills inside each compartment
- There are morning and evening sides
- The compartments can pop open if they bump into something in your bag
- It takes up a lot of room inside your pack
We won’t beat around the bush; this pill organizer is enormous. However, for all you get, we think it’ll be worth it for some travelers. It’s a larger container with smaller cases for the individual days inside. Each smaller organizer has three compartments: one for morning, midday, and evening. We fit 15 pills inside, which is pretty average for this list but more than most travelers need.
When it comes to getting the pills out, we scored this case a five, as the left and right containers have a wider opening, which can be challenging to plan for when dumping the pills out. With a wider opening, there’s more of a chance for pills to spill overboard. Still, it’s easy enough when you get used to it. We love how in-depth the organization of this pill case is; however, it’s hard to get over its massive bulk. Seriously, this thing is like three Kindles stacked on each other. Still, for all the space and organization you’re getting, this might be the right one for you.
Why We Like It- It has enough space for all the pills most people will ever need to bring
- The organizers are segmented into morning, midday, and evening
- Its size is prohibitive for one bag travel
- The left and right compartments can be challenging to get pills out of
The shape of the Mbarc XL 7 Day Weekly Pill Organizer reminds us of a giant travel battery bank. Still, even considering its size, we think its intuitive design and capacity makes it worth adding to this list. The pill container slides out of the metal casing easily but doesn’t pop open when you don’t want it to. It is water resistant, too, so no need to worry about bathroom countertop spills or splashes. You have to slide it all the way out to get to your final days, which may annoy some users, but you get used to doing it, and it isn’t an issue unless you’re trying to restock before the week is over.
We could fit 33 pills inside each compartment, which was the most of any case in our first testing batch. However, that vast space was challenging to manage, scoring a six on our scale of how easy it was to get the pills out of their case. Still, this is a solid shout for users who care about durability, water resistance, and capacity!
Why We Like It- It has a durable and water-resistant exterior
- You can fit a ridiculous number of pills in each compartment
- It isn’t very small, making it challenging to stow certain places
- Getting the pills out without spilling them can be challenging
Other’s We Considered
We liked the Sukuos Weekly Pill Organizer because it fits into water bottle pockets and other skinny spaces; however, the large openings can be challenging to get pills out of. Still, it’s a solid shout for people seeking a weekly organizer with AM and PM compartments.
We also liked the EllieGrid Smart Pill Organizer for its intuitive design and intelligent features; however, the size and build quality weren’t up to our one bag digital nomad travel standards. For those looking for a modern pill case at home or while traveling with carry on rolling luggage, it’s worth looking at!
So, those are some of the best travel pill organizers we’ve found on the market. Whether you’re going to the woods for the weekend or enjoying Seattle for a week, one of these pill cases will work for your medication and supplements. Happy travels!
