The BAGSMART Walker 2L Waterproof Dopp Kit caught the team’s attention with its eye-catching design, which, while not very flashy, stands out from other toiletry bags. It looks fresh, classy, and almost too nifty for the bathroom. But past the styling, we’re curious as to how functional it is as a toiletry bag for travel purposes.
Things look promising since it’s very water-resistant, has a front pocket, and its structured design keeps it standing up whether we’ve unpacked every makeup palette and tool we’ve brought or not. So, to better understand everything this Dopp kit has to offer, let’s dive in.
External Components
The Walker 2L stands out among Dopp kits with its heritage vibe and eye-catching design. The heavy orange accents are front and center, while the background of quilted nylon is a neat little canvas for it to sit on top of. Honestly, this Dopp kit looks more at home on a dresser or a coffee table than a bathroom, and that’s obviously not a diss against it.
The quilted nylon feels slick and somewhat padded, both qualities you’d want on a Dopp kit that will hang around in a moist, humid, and splash-abundant environment like your shower. Just to be safer, BAGSMART also reinforced the bottom with a PU material. It’s a little unclear if the entire fabric is PU or if just the nylon has a PU coating. Either way, water isn’t permeating through it. That said, none of the zippers are waterproof. In fact, they’re not even reverse coil and are very toothy, which means water would definitely seep through them should you—for some reason—decide to submerge this Dopp kit in water.
The zippers themselves are courtesy of SBS, which, while not quite as reputable as YKK zippers, is one of the more reliable brands out there. These certainly feel smooth to operate, in spite of how toothy they look. Each zipper comes with either a ring pull or paracord pull, and the latter has heat-shrink tips to prevent fraying and provide easier grab points. It’s worth noting that one end of the main compartment’s zipper track has a tiny loop you can hold to anchor the Dopp kit as you open or close the zippers, which is a pretty thoughtful touch.
Opposite the tiny loop is the Dopp kit’s grab handle. It’s a simple nylon loop, so there’s really nothing to gripe about it unless you expected something fancy. It’s enough for quick grabs and hanging the Dopp kit from a hook. That said, it’s not large enough to hook onto a doorknob or other similarly chunky fixtures, so just keep that in mind.
Inside The Toiletry Bag
Up at the front is a secondary pocket. We always like seeing one in one form or another because not every bit of toiletry needs to be in the main compartment. Here, whatever piece of toiletry you decide to store, it’s easy to reach in a pinch. Whether it’s a pack of wet wipes, cotton rounds, some bobby pins, cotton swabs, or tweezers, they can all fit in here.
A subtle trait we really dig about the Walker 2L is that it sits upright no matter how empty or packed it is, thanks to its thick and structured design. Unfortunately, that thickness also impacts the Dopp kit’s usable capacity. Starting with the straight zippered opening, it can feel a bit cramped to maneuver around once you have a fully packed interior. We’re getting a bit ahead of ourselves here, though, so let’s first see the main compartment’s layout.
In the middle is the main open space where the bulk of your toiletries will go. Testing the Walker 2L coincided with a wedding our tester had to attend, so we packed it with a set of Cadence Capsules full of creams, makeup, and other yassifying consumables needed for such functions. The Walker 2L’s flat floor makes it easy to stack such flat-bottomed containers, though the Cadence Capsule’s magnetic functionality should get some credit for keeping things together, too.
At the front are two elastic mesh pockets for flatter items like compacts and similarly slim toiletries. You can never have enough of those when you’re going to an event, though only having two pockets means you have to pick your favorites.
Meanwhile, the back contains three elastic loops for more irregularly shaped items. Think of small bottles of nail polish, concealers, or even small tubes of ointments. Just be careful and ensure containers near the side are properly sealed to avoid staining the liner. Do as we say, not as we do—it’s a bit too late for our sample, as there was some spillage during testing. We’re not too bothered since that’s just an inevitability with Dopp kits, but it’s something to keep in mind for others.
While organization and space aren’t exactly lacking, the two liters of space combined with the Dopp kit’s thick construction easily shows how cramped it gets once fully packed. Yes, you can start the journey with everything neatly organized. But once you’re taking out and swapping makeup and tools, things get a little too cramped and disorganized if you’re not careful.
Usage Timeline
Condition: Excellent
- Quilted material is a fun touch to a toiletry bag
- Dump pocket interior could be an issue for keeping toiletries organized
- Digging the exterior pockets for storage
Condition: Excellent
- Material is actually waterproof (water beads off easily), though the bag itself is not—don’t drop it in the bathtub!
- Stands up on its own no matter how full or empty it is
- Pretty roomy, though toiletry bottles take up significant space pretty quickly
