Full Review
Travel bottles have come a long way as users become more aware of the various chemical components and manufacturing processes involved in making them. Brands now tout “PFAS-free” and “food-grade” to reassure customers that their products are safe to use in the long term. Yet, understandably, seeing so many disclaimers and jargon can be offputting. Hence, a throwback to perceived simpler products might seem safer.

In this review, we’re looking at the purifyou Premium 22 oz Glass Water Bottle. This all-glass bottle doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles compared to others, lacking fancy touches insulation, a built-in straw, or the ability to fold. That said, is the promise of a purer drinking experience courtesy of glass worth the compromises? Let’s find out.
The Rundown
Right out of the box, we immediately rinsed the bottle and filled it with drinking water to see if there was a weird aftertaste. Surely enough, we didn’t taste anything out of the ordinary, confirming that purifyou most likely didn’t do anything extra with the glass.

That glass is high-tempered borosilicate, similar to what they use to make high-quality Pyrex glass. This makes the bottle very sturdy, and it certainly feels that way. The entire bottle is covered in a silicone sleeve, but depending on the surface it falls on, we honestly feel that it can survive drops from table height without it.
The silicone case is fine and still looks pristine after two weeks of testing. We don’t take that for granted as silicone sleeves tend to get scuffed and marked up rather easily. In a practical sense, that’s fine since a sleeve is meant to protect the material beneath it. However, those like us who like to keep their gear looking presentable will be happy to know that this sleeve is one of the more resilient ones. Plus, it’s noticeably smoother than other silicone sleeves we’ve tried.

The silicone sleeve is also graduated to show you how much water is left. We’re testing the 22-ounce version, so the markings start at 500 mL and 21 ounces. While that may be helpful, we really like the graduation on the other side of the sleeve, where markings indicate how much water you should’ve drunk by a certain time of the day. Of course, 22 ounces is too little water for an entire day, so there are three sets of markings to help you keep track of refills, as well. With all of that said, we wouldn’t strictly rely on the bottle’s suggestion for fluid intake since that can vary based on your size and activity level.
The bottle’s cap is color-matched to the sleeve and has a built-in ring handle, which we’re not quite fond of. Since it’s built into the cap itself, any incidental force from grabbing onto it risks unscrewing the top. Thankfully, the plastic material is at least sturdy enough that you’d be confident if you decide to hold onto it.

Under the cap is a fairly narrow opening that’s sealed with the corresponding metal filling underneath the cap. Your mileage may vary, but our bottle brush was too wide to fit, so you’ll have to watch out for that. Meanwhile, the threading isn’t so fine that cross-threading was an issue, and it’s also not too sharply edged as to be harsh against the lips.

Cleaning is a bit of a challenge since the bottle’s opening is narrow. Not only did we need to find a slimmer brush, but it was also hard to reach the slope immediately after the neck. It’s not a huge deal if you’re only using this bottle for water, but it can get crusty if you’re filling it with juice or other beverages. You can also remove the silicone sleeve to clean the exterior thoroughly. It’s tough to do, though, so it’s a step we’d honestly avoid in the future.
Packability
In terms of packability, this bottle is as big as you’d expect from a 22-ounce bottle. Of course, since there’s no fancy insulation, it’s not that far off in size compared to an 18-ounce insulated bottle.

Where you can run into trouble is with the silicone sleeve. Silicone is inherently grippy compared to metal finishes, so slipping this bottle into tight side pockets may sometimes be challenging. Conversely, it also means this bottle has a good chance of staying in place if your bag gets tossed around. It’s also worth noting that, despite its middling 22-ounce size, this bottle is slightly too wide for some cup holders we’ve encountered during testing.
Quick Comparison
As mentioned above, an 18-ounce Standard Mouth Hydro Flask is a close comparator to this 22-ounce glass bottle. The reason for the noticeable difference in volume isn’t just that the purifyou Glass Bottle is objectively larger but also that the Hydro Flask’s insulation takes up space. In exchange, cold drinks are kept cold, and hot drinks are kept hot.

For the record, we don’t feel that Hydro Flask bottles have a chemical taste, so it’s mostly the smaller capacity that you’re trading off. Plus, you get a niftier handle that swivels and is easier to hold with your hand than the built-in handle on the purfiyou’s cap.
