The Orbitkey Clip is designed to keep your keys “close by, but out of the way,” Orbitkey describes, by letting you attach them to your pants or a bag.
At the end of the clip, a small clasp functions sort of like a belt loop, allowing you to slide it off and detach the key ring from the clip.
You can slip keys on and off the ring by turning the ring fastening mechanism 180 degrees. This works with most keys, but just note, the ring is thicker than other metal rings meaning some keys may not slip on as easily.
The Orbitkey Clip is offered in a variety of colors, though we chose the traditional black on black for our testing purposes (you’re shocked, right?).
Unfortunately, we’re sad to report that you may be better off with a standard carabiner and key ring if you’re looking to attach your keys to your clothing or a bag. The stainless steel clip has a somewhat flimsy feel in-hand and the mechanism is poorly executed. During our two weeks of testing, we couldn’t help but feel like this thing was about to break every time we hinged and unhinged it. Its unusual design actually prevents it from hinging properly, and we’ve found it gets caught quite often when clipping and unclipping—which is less than ideal.
Basically, the clip feels like it’s never truly closed, and that’s probably not a risk you want to take with your keys.
Usage Timeline
Condition: Excellent
- The carabiner portion doesn’t seem to accurately close and can sort of get “stuck” open.
Condition: Fine
We’re a little wary of the leather closure system – it may fall off over time.
Condition: Dead
The plastic part of the carabiner busted and this item is no longer usable.
