Step Into the Sky: NYC’s Top of the Rock Unveils a Stunning New Attraction

Are you looking for a different perspective on your next trip to New York City? A new experience is helping guests soar over the tops of skyscrapers and lighting up the night sky at the same time. No, it’s not a new blimp or drone; it’s the Skylift at Top of the Rock, where you can get 360-degree views of the Big Apple from the top of Rockefeller Center.

What’s New

Skylift is the latest addition to the Top of the Rock Observation Deck, EB Kelly, head of the Rockefeller Center, told NBC New York.

“Skylift is a thrilling, breathtaking experience where you can ascend 30 feet up in the air on a beautiful glass floor that rotates as you go up, such that you're 900 feet in the air with unobstructed 360-degree views,” Kelly said.

If you go, you’ll first see a brief video and then take an interactive elevator to the 69th floor of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The Skylift is on the topmost floor of the building, the 70th, where visitors can enter an open-air circular base. The platform is fenced with glass and slowly rotates, rising three more stories. By the end, you’ll be 900 feet above the ground floor.

Fly Like A Bird

Up to 13 people can ride at a time, and the experience lasts 3.5 minutes. It’s an add-on to the regular admission price to the Top of the Rock Observation Deck, which costs $75-96 with the Skylift factored in. However, it is included in the $190 VIP package.

Or you can enjoy the show for free from the ground. Once it gets dark, nearby tourists can enjoy a fantastic light show as the 90 LED pixel flutes in the tiers illuminate and light up the night.

However, those riding for the first time say the price is worth it for the views.

“You just need to go around once to see everything instead of walking around the different areas of the observation deck,” Nathalie Mary told The Post2. “All of your photos can be taken on [Skylift], and I love that.”
